During the crisis, the capital's DIY market demonstrated higher resistance to exchange rate fluctuations. The indicators for St. Petersburg are less optimistic. Evnevich, in 2019 it is planned to launch several pavilions in Moscow with a repair and finishing range. After World War II, Europe experienced a construction boom, and the Do It Yourself (DIY) concept was more popular than ever. At first, people simply rebuilt their houses destroyed during the war, or improved their living conditions due to the post-war population boom.
Later, home decoration became a way of self-expression and individuality. This trend was joined a little later by Americans, primarily young educated people, who thus opposed themselves to the American society of narrow specialists who know nothing except their profession. So in Western Europe and America in the 1960-70s, DIY format hypermarkets appeared (the English name for stores for home and repair, the literal translation is “Do it yourself”).
In Russia, the first DIY hypermarket opened in St. Petersburg on October 6, 1997. It was Maxidom on Civil Avenue.
Within the first month of its existence, the store became one of the most popular places in the city. Townspeople came here not only to shop, but also just for an excursion - to look at the huge, cozy and bright shopping room, walk among the abundance of goods presented, chat with friendly sellers. A year after the opening, more than a third of St. Petersburg residents were already shopping at Maxidom.
Over the following years, Maxidom remains one of the leaders in its field and is developing steadily, opening new stores not only in St. Petersburg, but also in other cities of Russia

Hello! I’ve been going to this shopping center on Grazhdansky for ten years now (or more, I don’t remember, almost since its opening, in short). During this time, my husband and I made three renovations in the apartment, so almost everything (linoleum, tiles, wallpaper, some plumbing) was bought there. The good thing about the store is that everything is in one place, at a very reasonable price (especially if you get it on sale). There have never been any problems with the quality of the goods, delivery was ordered somehow - everything was also in order. In a word, I can easily recommend it to everyone.
